Google Home mini vs Amazon Echo dot. Microphone sensitivity

Testing the Echo dot vs Home mini. Connected to the same speakers, mini with a Chromecast audio dongle. The Home Mini is unable to hear you when it is playing via the Chromecast audio in the same room, whilst the Echo dot performs well in comparison. The Home mini won’t play podcasts over Chromecast, so pretty useless if that’s what you want to listen to. And on a slightly unrelated matter, I c...

Fantastic video & building.
I'm mean size of timber used for wall and roof.
This is excellent. what is the size of the posts and joist you used?
Amazing job! With which company did you get the custom sliding door please? Dims would be amazing too as we are planning to do a very similar design!
Hi, and many thanks. I used TradeFrame.com (in Gloucester) to supply and fit the door. I don't remember the exact dimensions but it was custom made so whatever dimensions you need they should be able to help you.
She’s a beaut
Great build, would love to achieve something like this over the next 12 months in my garden. What is the overall size and divided sizes of the rooms? Trying to work out what size we’d need! Thanks.
Total cost?
£10k, 2018

Finally, someone who knows how to build. The so called pro's builds on here are awful....wont last a year without problems. Well done, this is well built
Bit odd looking for a shed with that front door and then the glass corner with the sliding door. Nice though, but I would have lined up the cladding better...
Be interesting to know how much something like this costs
I'm really looking at this in detail only because I'm thinking of doing it myself. Was there an incline on the roof? It was so close to the fence on the left, was it not difficult to get in there to finish that side off.
Yes, there is a small incline of a few degrees (that's all that is needed for drainage). My garden is fairly small so I needed as much space as possible - so I did intentionally build it close to the boundary (which limits the max height to avoid planning requirements). I used child labor :-) to fix the cladding on those sides, and used thicker sheets of english red cedar to save cost and make it easier. They all had to be screwed too as there was even insufficient space to swing a hammer. If you have the space, I would not recommend you do the same.
Did you need permission to build it ? Thanks
No
Where can I get a room from? Thank you.،،..I am from the Netherlands
This was a DIY project built from a plan that was in my head.
مم اين احصل مثل هاذهي الغرفه وشكرا ارجو المساعده
What did you use on the roof?
EPDM rubber membraine
How did you attach the wood frame to concrete?
Lots of heavy duty screws, the type used for fixing window frames to walls. Every 18 inches. The main consideration is wind loading and lift. I tend to over-engineer, so was building to last - not for budget.
Absolutely amazing! I’ve already watched the 7 min video twice! A few questions if I may? 1. What size is this? I need something similar but the office space needs to also house a mini gym (treadmill, punchbag and rowing machine) whereas the workshop area only needs to house the bikes, lawn mower, garden tools etc. 2. Did you stay in budget? 3. Do you think the price to build this will have risen significantly due to the last 3 years? 4. Do you have a BoM you could share, totally understand if you don’t. Thanks in advance.
Hi, and thanks for your comments. Hope you also enjoyed the timelapse video of the build too. Size wise it is roughly 7m wide, 2.2m deep and 2.5m tall. I have a fairly small plot hence the size, and for building so close to the boundary. My budget was £10k (2018 prices) and yes I did stay in budget, the largest outlay was the cedar cladding followed closely by the corner patio door which was custom made. The price would have risen significantly since I built it, not only construction materials in general have risen (from 2020 onwards) but inflation has also taken its toll in recent years. I don't have a BOM, it was kind or made up as I went along My suggestion would be to define what footprint you require to get everything you want in and then work from that, I just used a spreadsheet to work out how much timber was needed etc. Oh, and my one regret - not putting air conditioning in from the start, I did retrofit later. Regards, Mark
@@mlawson123you put a waterproof membrane and insulation in, it was always gonna get sweaty in the excess heat of summer. At least you’ve managed to get the thing retrofitted.
For me, the ideas in ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
Great build video, good idea to keep the camera in the same place all the time.
what a job dude? fantastic well done, very clean, and looks very luxury big like
Nice, till you get told to take it down. Must be at least one metre from any boundary (wood), or it is constructed substantially of non-combustible materials.
Hi, I don't know what you are citing, but no such restriction exists in the UK where this was built.
Hiya please could you let me know in detail how you done your base please as looks amazing
Hi, please check out my other video - this shows a time lapse of the whole process. Basically, dig a hole - line it, add a damp proof course, add insulation and reienforcement and pour concrete. This was somewhat over-engineered but I wanted it to be sturdy and last a while.
Can I please have the building plan. Cheers @Australia
Did you use any project to build this garden house ?
excellent vid! did you end up putting network / internet out there?
Yes, hardwired is much more reliable than relying on wifi from the house
Can you tell me the dimensions please?
That is how work should be done Spotless and dressed for the occasion 👏
I bet it cost allot too, how much did it cost 10,000 k I bet
Yes £10k in 2018, probably much more at today's prices. Worth every penny.
So over the top
very nice work! , what camera did you use for the timelapse ?
Many thanks. I used a fairly cheap GoPro lookalike (don't remember which) and powered it via USB.
Build the walls lying down then liaise them is the proper way to build.
yeah, only works when the wall is smaller than the base.
The batons on the outside for the shiplap instead of screwing direct to the OSB board. Is that so moisture can run down?
How big is it ??
Amazing
I’ve watched this like 7-8 times and I’m still astounded. Awesome build, great taste.
So glad you enjoyed my video, as I write this I am sat at my desk inside - I still love the build ~5 years on.
I’ve just completed laying the concrete base for my 8x6 shed and i’m considering having a week long party because of the hard work. If i’d built what you have i’d take the year off lol looking forward to seeing your next project(s)!
@@Lionfire1 Yes, laying the base may not look like much (it's all underground), but is about a third of the work. So crack open a beer, you've completed a significant chunk.
Loved the Video, how did you connect your wooden frame to the concrete base ?
Hi Austin, many thanks. I used some long screws, at 60cm intervals to secure the frame to the base.
why can us europeeans not be able to build with wood like the americans do ? they have been building like primates for ages and perfected it . build the wall down then lift it up
If I were a builder, I would have built it differently. The base is narrower than the structure is high, so the frames cannot be constructed on the base and then lifted up, except for the sides.
I'm assuming that the local council hasn't been involved seeing as the structure is made of combustible materials and closer than 1m to the border of the property?
No, and there is no reason for them to be. The structure it outside of the scope of building control and within the height restriction meaning it may be within 1m of the boundary.
@@mlawson123 hight restrictions are only one part of the regulations, it still has to be 1m away from the fence line of it's made from timber... Not if it's made of concrete or another non combustible material granted but it's clearly made of timber.. I'm building one atm and already looked into it.
@@mlawson123 Is building regulations approval needed for an outbuilding? If you want to put up small detached buildings such as a garden shed or summerhouse in your garden, building regulations will not normally apply if the floor area of the building is less than 15 square metres and contains NO sleeping accommodation. If the floor area of the building is between 15 square metres and 30 square metres, you will not normally be required to apply for building regulations approval providing that the building contains NO sleeping accommodation and is either at least one metre from any boundary or it is constructed substantially of non-combustible materials. Copied from the councils planning portal on permitted developments
@@marlinsjh1 Ok, you clearly know more about it than me.
@@mlawson123 the regulations can be a little hard to follow sometimes as they seem to have different things scattered in different areas of the rules and also conflicting rules on how much of your land you can actually build on, ie: no more than 50% of the curtailage of the land ( this includes ANY other out buildings like sheds etc) It's well worth looking into as much as possible, as a worst case scenario they could ask you to take it down if it doesn't comply and you only need a jealous neighbor for them to come knocking on the door.
Absolutely amazing. Well done and enjoy 😉 😊
las imagenes van muy rapidaz y no detallan trabajo
Sorry, I had no idea this video would be so popular - otherwise I would have made it more instructional and step by step. Ali Dymock's UA-cam channel has far more useful information on the construction.
Is it permitted development close to boundary fence? Thanks
Yes, the main limitation is the height of the structure, which basically means it will need to have a flat roof to remain within permitted development.
@@mlawson123 Thank you so much.
this is fireeeeeeee asfff best one seen so far that's done by one man
What kid of wood did you use on that front exterior wall ?
Hi, it's Canadian Red Cedar.
Clever design and looks very smart 10/10 - is there anything you’d have done differently in hindsight? Can’t imagine there is but there’s always something lol
I'd have made it a little bigger and taller (without breaking the 2.5m threshold at which planning becomes necessary - right now I have a good 20cm margin, which would have been useful). I fitted air conditioning later on in my office, I would have made this more integrated. Apart from that, nothing much.
@@mlawson123 thanks for the reply - it’s a great design and something that matches/meets my same needs almost exactly. Very encouraging video 🤝
fantastic video, really smart putting this up and absolutely amazing seeing this build from nothing to what we end up with. - and the music made it even more enjoyable to watch :)
Hi, how do you wether proof the osb board against the fences?
A breathable membrane and then cladding, like the front - but British Red Cedar (as it is cheaper)
wow, build me one in 7 mins pls ?
What was the sq ft
About 120 sq ft.
Wow, you work really fast.....
